Fatal Motorcycle Accidents in Pensacola

Two Recent Crashes Result in Loss of Life

Tragic news has struck the Pensacola community with two fatal motorcycle crashes in recent weeks. On Tuesday night, a 21-year-old motorcyclist lost their life in a crash on Highway 98. The driver responsible, Byron Pineda, 33, has been charged with undisclosed offenses. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), another person was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

On Saturday night, another motorcycle crash occurred, this time on Gulf Beach Highway. A 29-year-old Pensacola man was killed in the incident. The FHP continues to investigate both crashes.

Motorcycle Accident Statistics in Pensacola

Motorcycle accidents are not uncommon in Pensacola and other parts of Florida. According to the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FHSMV), there were 5,348 motorcycle crashes in Florida in 2022, resulting in 346 fatalities. Of these crashes, 2,419 involved injuries and 981 involved property damage only.

While motorcycle riders represent only a small percentage of total traffic volume, they are disproportionately involved in serious crashes. In 2022, motorcyclists accounted for just 3% of all registered vehicles in Florida, but they made up 19% of all traffic fatalities.
