The Selection Process

Ursula von der Leyen, a prominent member of the European Peoples Party (EPP), was nominated to the European Parliament by the European Council on 3 July 2019. Her selection was met with initial resistance from some political groups, but she ultimately secured enough votes to be elected.

A Commission with a Clear Vision

After being elected, President von der Leyen presented her Political Guidelines to the Parliament. These guidelines outlined her ambitious vision for the European Union, focusing on digital innovation, climate action, and social equality. The von der Leyen Commission took office in December 2019.
