Early Life
Born on November 14, 1948, at Buckingham Palace, King Charles III is the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. He became heir apparent to the throne when his mother acceded to the throne in 1952.
Reign
King Charles III became the United Kingdom's monarch on September 8, 2022, following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. He was crowned at Westminster Abbey on May 6, 2023.
Prince of Wales
Before becoming King, Prince Charles held the title of Prince of Wales. He was the heir to the throne and the eldest son of His Majesty The King and Diana, Princess of Wales. He is married to The Princess of Wales, Catherine, with whom he has three children.
Legacy
King Charles III has paid tribute to his mother on her Platinum Jubilee for the remarkable achievement of reaching 70 years on the throne. He has also welcomed his mother's wish that the throne pass immediately and without ceremony to him upon her death. He became the UK's monarch at the age of 73.
